Tom & Leesha -- A Look Back

MAIN PHOTO

One of my favorite weddings ever was Tom & Leesha. Their attention to detail and classy style yielded some of my favorite images ever. Since they got married before my blog was even a twinkle in my eye I thought I'd go back and post my favorites. Their engagements and Leesha's bridals are some of my favorites too but you'll have to wait til another day to get those.
PS. You may have noticed the baby shoot I did for them a little while ago...if not, go take a look at those too!

Jessica & Douglas - Wedding Photography

MAIN PHOTO

Jessica and Douglas were a delight. The more fun I have at a wedding, the better the photos are. I get to be a part of things and get to know the various players. They trust me more and are more willing to be photographed. Judging by these images, you can tell I had a great time at this one.
Jessica thought of everything and you could see her effort and the support of everyone around her in every detail. The bridesmaids and groomsmen were a big part of the day so I got to capture those interactions that make a wedding day priceless.
Congratulations Jessica and Douglas and THANK YOU for letting me be a part of your day!

This Week's Favorite Wedding EVER!

I don't even know how to introduce this one except to say that I really want to get married again! How fun is THIS!!!??! Rarely is a YouTube video worth five whole minutes of your time but this one is worth TEN! (You'll watch it twice.)
UPDATE: They've disabled embedding but click it and go to youtube to watch it if you haven't seen it. It's worth it. They've had over 8 million views!

You're welcome.

I loathe phone cameras...

MAIN PHOTO

...but occasionally you can get something decent. Thanks to a really cool photo editing program for the G1, I can now make my crappy pictures from my phone look okay. Here's a shot of my baby girl from our recent Yellowstone trip.

Camera phones pretty much are the proof that the megapixels of a camera mean nothing. Crappy hardware and crappy lenses will always mean crappy photos, no matter HOW many pixels there are. I have actually seen decent photos from phone cameras, just not any from any phone I've owned. Let me know if you own a camera phone that takes anything near a clear, sharp photo---I'll believe it when I see it.

Artist extraordinnaire - Courtney Parsons

In the art world of Jon Woodbury there are several classifications of "good" art.
1. Art I like.
2. Art I respect.
3. Art I'd buy.

I decided to post some art by one of my favorite artists, Courtney Parsons.
He's a local guy and has a unique style. I really like his work.

I was introduced to Courtney as an artist when Lori and I attended the exhibit of his Umbrella Plant Series. We knew then and there that we wanted to own one. Both Lori and I like Art Nouveau. This series has a classic art-nouveau feel.
I am the proud owner of Goblin Valley #2.

Summer & JD - The Star Mill

Cover Photo

Meet Summer and JD. Yes, they are as much fun as their names imply. They are eclectic, effervescent, effusive, and energetic so no ordinary location would do for their engagement session. The Star Mill in American Fork, Utah fit the bill. It's the kind of location that could explode the noggin of some unsuspecting photographer who thinks it's a mere antique store. It has variety beyond variety...it has all varieties of variety. (Would you say it has a plethora of variety?)
Anyway, Summer and JD were the perfect couple to wade through the wealth of offerings. So, without further ado (Yeah, I know, that was way too much ado.)...
Summer and JD.

Speaking at the UDJA Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, Tuesday July 14, I will be speaking to the Utah DJ Association about working well with photographers. I'm honored to have been asked and I'm excited to hear what they have to say as well as hopefully helping them to work better with us photographers in the future.

Sonia - Bridals

MAIN PHOTO

I just posted Sonia and Anthony's engagements. They were so fun and personal that I expected no less from her bridals. Since she is obsessed with vintage cars, the perfect place to do her bridals was a classic car museum. The cars were all pretty packed in so the challenge was to minimize the background distractions.
I used one monolight with a 48x18 softbox and a speedlight with a grid for a backlight most of the time. I shot at the fastest sync speed to cut out on the ambient light and darken the background. It was a challenge to shoot in and around all the cars. We were very careful not to scratch or ruin anything. Most of the shots were taken with the Canon 17-40L because there just wasn't enough room to shoot anything longer. The conditions were tough but that makes for a fun challenge. It turned out great!

July 4th Fireworks at Eaglewood Golf Course

Lori, Hannah, and the fireworks

Quick post as I am absolutely swamped.
You'll have to forgive the lack of polish on these as I can't take the time to work on my own stuff with so much due for clients.
But I had a good time over the 4th of July weekend shooting my family. We have the cutest kids on the planet so I'm posting some shots of them just to prove it. There are some shots of my brothers and sisters as well--they're not quite as cute but still deserve some screen time.
I decided not to shoot the fireworks themselves this year. Sometimes I need to remember to put away the camera, cuddle up to my honey and my baby, and just enjoy life. I took the above shot at the beginning but then did just that. I put the camera away. It was a wonderful day.
