Dave & Janna - Engagements

MAIN PHOTO

One thing I love about my job is that I get to meet and befriend so many wonderful people. I have so many new friends because we get to know each other through the course of a wedding.
This wedding is different. I have known Janna for about 20 years. She has been one of my closest and most devoted friends for many years (and the reason I looked at Snow College as an option when I was a freshman.) I am extremely excited and honored to be doing her wedding. There are few people on the planet that I know as well or who knows me as well so I really wanted her engagements to feel like her. Janna is at the same time sweet, sophisticated, sexy, and mysterious. I feel like all of those things come out in the images.
Congratulations guys. Dave, you are a lucky son of a gun.

Ali Newton's Bridals

ALI-MAIN PHOTO

I'm posting the bridals BEFORE THE WEDDING!! (Feel free to picture the chaos that ensues when Yosemite Sam starts shooting into the air)
Don't worry, it's not sacrilege. Erik has already seen these. Ali couldn't wait to show him so that's exactly what she did. (That's the reaction I want, I'm certainly not complaining.) So I get to post bridals before the wedding for once!
These were shot in the Crandall Building in downtown Salt Lake City. As you can see, Ali is not a difficult subject. Most of these were lit by a single strobe with a softbox on it and an on-camera fill so nothing complicated. They have a fun, unique feel mostly because that's who Ali is. I'm thrilled they chose me to be a part of their day and I'm excited for them to get married in a few short hours. Good luck, guys!

Happy Birthday, Hannah.

My baby girl (and favorite subject) turned two a couple of days ago! I can't believe how big she's getting. She's already smarter than I am and it's only going to get worse for me. I can't believe how happy this kid makes me. She's learning how to tease and likes to give me both barrels. It makes me cry with joy to even think about her. I love her.
If you want to read the sweetest post in the world about her, go to Lori's blog. For me, I'm doing it by images. The slideshow above is made up of some of my favorite images of Hannah's two years. If you can't see it (smartphone people) click here to see the album on facebook.

After the festivities were ended, Hannah came down to my office to show me the pretty new dress Grandma gave her. I was messing around with a couple of radio transceivers with flashes so I had a Canon 580ex II all good to go. She picked up a frame I have lying around and voila!--improvised photo shoot. The light is a little harsh but normally Hannah doesn't stop long enough to eat, let alone let me take her picture. These few frames were about all I could get but below you can see Hannah at exactly two years old.

Computers Should Win More Emmys

This is a fascinating video. The studio uses footage from TV and movies but alternates between the filmed version and the computer finished version revealing what was done with a green screen and a computer. It surprised me! An interesting look behind the scenes of some of your favorite TV shows.

Shane & Amanda - Engagement Session

MAIN PHOTO

Shot at the City of Rocks in southern Idaho in May, we were trying to capture the unique combination of sophistication and natural simplicity. Shane and Amanda are a young, dynamic couple who love a night under the stars just as much as a night on the town. We traveled to their very favorite camping spot to shoot their engagement session. Amanda mentioned that she looked through about 38 pages of photographers on Google. I'm so glad that they chose me! We've become such good friends. Their wedding is all processed and still to come so keep an eye on the blog.

DJ - Class of 2010 - Senior Portraits

MAIN PHOTO

MAIN PHOTO

DJ. What a cool chick. She has a distinct, unique style. She has an artistic streak in her and wants to paint for a living. She just got a new haircut so we wanted something sort of "urban artistic" so we found the coolest walls in the state. Like most people she didn't know what to do in front of the camera at first but with her mom their to cheer her on (Hi, Laney.) she figured it out and we had an awesome shoot.
As always, there's a slide show on this post. If you're reading this on facebook, here's a link to the photos: http://www.facebook.com/editphoto.php?aid=130339&id=40032498949#/album.php?aid=130339&id=40032498949.

Twins...Part II - Brooks & Eva

MAIN PHOTO

The second set of twins I've shot in the last little while are a little older, making them much more of a handful. Babies at this age crawl all over the place and are never content to sit on anyone's lap. It makes them difficult to photograph. But as always, it all turns out well in the end. Allison and Jim will definitely have their hands quite full for years to come. (No worries, only just over 17 years until they graduate!)

Twins...Part I - Brooklyn & Emmalyn

MAIN PHOTO

Got twins?
Do you want some? If you do, I know where you can move. It's in the water here in the good old 84123--this is the 8th set of twins in the last few years just in our immediate neighborhood! Some people think a child starts to develop their personality around the age of one. To you I would like to enter Exhibit A. At a little over a month they not only had personalities, I think they might have opposite personalities! It was almost like they were taunting each other right there on the blanket. I don't often shoot babies (I find them difficult to work with, they rarely follow direction well...) but we had a good time.
It was a simple shoot, two cute kids, a favorite blanket, and a monolight with a 48" x 18" softbox. (I did use a 580 ex II speedlight as a rim light and to bring up the shadows on a couple frames.)

Staying true to the theme, coming up I will double your pleasure and will post my second twins shoot in recent months in Twins...Part Deux - The Sequel!

Mariana & Carlos - Utah Wedding Photography

MAIN PHOTO

Mariana is from Brazil. Carlos is from Spain. How did they ever meet?

BYU of course.

After being married in the Draper Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah, Mariana and Carlos proceeded to their luncheon and reception at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building in downtown Salt Lake City.
I can't even tell you how much I enjoyed this wedding. Carlos and Mariana are the sweetest couple, they just go, go, go all the time. Everybody danced and had a great time. (It was also a veritable Who's Who of LDS church leaders since Mariana's father is Elder Costa, a General Authority.)
Pay close attention to the flowers as they were done by my favorite florist on the planet, my lovely wife, Lori. You can see her work at www.weddingsbywoodbury.com.
