Engagement Session Teasers - Little Cottonwood Canyon - Chase and Kat

I have been so busy that this blog has kind of gotten shafted. I'm determined to fix that. Here are some teaser shots from my engagement session tonight with Kat and Chase. They are one of the most photogenic couples I've ever shot. (All of these are treated with my personal collection of Lightroom presets.)

After literally years of work, I have collected many of my favorite and most popular images into an online gallery where you can browse, share, and purchase your favorite images.
You'll notice many images from my trips to Europe as well as many locations from around the United States.

{Photo IQ: I'm going to talk about the image of the leaves for the instructional part of the post. Sometimes the most important aspect of photography is simply being in the right place at the right time. I went out for a walk with my camera on an autumn day after a frost and saw these leaves trapped in ice on the pond near my house. It's a rare and beautiful phenomenon and only lasted about 30 min before the pond melted again and the leaves sunk to the bottom. The tip for today day is simply to SHOOT! Get out there with your camera and make images. Take photo walks, either by yourself or with a friend. If you're in Utah you can go to http://www.photowalkingutah.com/ or organize your own. Elegant Bridals in Utah Valley - Blayr - Provo Castle Park

Blayr is one of the two Holmgren sisters I photographed last fall. I realized that I never posted her bridals on my blog and they are some of my favorites!
Click here to see her awesome vintage-inspired wedding. 
Blayr wanted a mixture of the classic sweet with the modern sassy.  With her graceful dress and feminine curls in contrast to the hot pink Steve Madden heels and cheeky daisy bouquet, it was so much fun to find locations to shoot that met the needs of both sides of her personality.  Castle Park in Provo proved to be the perfect space.  The stone castle overlooks the entire Provo valley and offered beautiful views, impressive structures, and even a lake where we shot on the dock.  It was a beautiful setting for a gorgeous girl! 

Photographically speaking, most images have a -1 ev fill from an off-camera speedlite in a Gary Fong Lightsphere.
In processing, I also played around with the Indian Summer filter from Nik Software. Way cool. It turns all your leaves into fall colors.
She had great shoes, too.

Winter, do your worst, your days are numbered!

Even though it's supposed to snow today, I am feeling good about the weather. I shot two weddings this week and both took place under beautiful, warm skies. Both weddings were wonderfully fun with two great couples. I say this a lot but we work with the best people in the world!
Wednesday was Colleen and Derek who got married in the Provo, Utah LDS temple and had their reception at the White Willow reception center in Provo. The highlight for me HAS to be the top hats and tails of the groomsmen. Classy.
Amy and Geoff got married in the Salt Lake temple and had their dinner at The Old Meeting House.
There will be some pictures of both of these events in the future but for now I am going to bid adieu to winter (despite the snow) with some images of the coming of the snow last fall. The pond by our house was frozen over before the fall leaves were even gone. Never one to leave a good photo alone, I threw the baby girl into the stroller and we went for a walk to document the phenomenon.
